BMW introduced their new BMW 5 Series with the model BMW 520 and BMW 520i. They used the Olympic games for PR not to forget that the Olympic Park is next to BMW's headquarter. For the BMW 520 the same engine, which was know from the BMW 2000, was installed. The engine was feed by a double equal pressure carburetor from Stromberg (175 CDET) with automatic choke. The adjustment of the carburetor caused sometimes problems as they were nailnew. After BMW's works holidays 1976 all BMW 5 Series were redifined and got a facelift (Series 2). The BMW 520 is the basic model for the complete BMW 5 Series. 41 % of all bought BMW 5 Series cars are this model. 1977 BMW replaced the old 4 cylinder eingine with a new developed 6 cylinder engine (BMW 520/6).
