Bernd Pischetsrieder, in den 1980er Jahren Direktor bei BMW Südafrika, besaß einen BMW 745i. Da das Turboaggregat nicht in rechtsgelenkte Fahrzeuge verbaut werden konnte, entschloss man sich bei BMW Südafrika den M88-Motor das BMW M1 einzubauen, um ein leistungsstarkes Fahrzeug für die Oberklasse anbieten zu können. Dieser Wagen befindet sich heute in Privatbesitz in der Nähe von Midrand.

Bernd Pischetsrieder, who was the managing Director of BMW South Africa, owned a BMW 745i. The Turbo engine couldn't be built in for right hand drive cars, BMW South Africa decided to use the M88 engine of BMW M1 to offer a powerful car for the top of their range. The car is now owned by a private person, who is located nearby Midrand
